How would your ebook look with embedded audio or video clips? Would that add value for your readers? Oak EBooks allows you to embed these clips into the ebook, so the reader clicks on a panel in the book, and the media plays in that panel, without the need to access any external website - which your readers will love!
Universal Format
Oak EBooks Ltd. works solely with PDF files. PDF is a reliable format that is secure against viruses (.EXE files are distinctly non-secure - your potential customers are far more likely to trust PDF files). Importantly, PDF is the universal document format - it can be used on PCs, Apple computers, Linux, iPhones... PDF is the only secure format that can be read on all modern computers and ebook reading devices.
Easy ways to Sell
You upload your ebooks, and can sell them individually or in collections.
We can process payments from your customers (via SagePay), deliver the ebooks to your customers, and your income to you at monthly intervals. This is probably the best option for you if you are just starting.
Alternatively, you can just send us the orders for your customers and we'll send them the ebooks. Orders can be sent automatically from your site, or entered manually. These options can be useful if:
- You already have a payment service provider.
- You sell packages which are part ebooks, part something else - courses, DVDs, etc.
Flexibility
The system enables you to set prices in two different currencies - UK Sterling and US Dollars. The place of sale is where you, the author, are, which simplifies matters.
Affordability
Our service charges are competitive, plus, our contracts state that we act as intermediaries of sale, you (the author) are the seller, and the place of sale is your registered place of residence. This matters because authors in the EU earning under the VAT threshold do not need to charge VAT (so authors can actually get somewhere before having a high tax slapped on their work), and authors in the USA (and elsewhere) don't need to charge high European rates to sell to customers in Europe. It is right that everyone pay their dues, but there is no need to use a system that maximizes tax demands (as some other portals do) when it is legitimate, simpler and cheaper, to do it another way.
Combat File Sharing and Drive by Downloads
Oak EBooks Ltd. uniquely identifies each copy of an ebook sold, to deter file-sharing. The identification is discreet and doesn't interfere with the reader's enjoyment of the book.
Furthermore, Oak EBooks Ltd. deals with the problem inherent in so-called hidden pages, pages that authors using other e-book portals direct their customers to, after they purchase, where the customer downloads the ebook. A very real problem is that such pages can and do get found by search engines, allowing free downloads to anyone searching your subject area. Sometimes, your PDF download page might even appear higher in searches than your sales page! Oak EBooks Ltd. eliminates this issue completely - the download page for your work is controlled, so only legitimate customers can access it.
Quality Control
This is a newly launched website, and we are determined to make a gold-standard reputation. Submissions have been refused. Most other portals are indiscriminate in accepting ebooks. Quality control is good for you, because your ebook will stand shoulder to shoulder with others of the same high standard.
